Technology is becoming one of the core reliance in society operation and even dominating some people's lives. Do you think you are addicted to the internet? Could you go an entire week without it? Will your life be hugely impacted if the Internet crashes down? And what do you think is the most significant achievement that Internet brings us? We would like to hear your opinion.
WOW, that's awful for me if the internet cash down. I still remember my lap-top got a serious problem before I came to the States. And my life was in a mess. I think I'm quite addicted to it. Firstly, I check my social networking web like FB and other stuff almost every 15-60 minutes. Well, sleeping time wasn't included. So without internet, I will DIE!!!! Secondly, my parents are all in China, so the best way to contact them is the internet. If I use the phone, AT&T is going to be very happy, because it charges A LOT!! So, in this way, internet helps a lot and of course I can't go an entire week without it. On the other hand, as the reasons I listed above, you can how hugely impacted if the internet crashes down. Meanwhile, internet bring us a lot, like, it connects the world into a small "village", we can make friends from other countries, we can know the latest news very soon. Other than these, it also can be an important entertainment equipment. Like you can watch movies, download your favorite albums from iTunes and as well as the video games! If it crashes down, the world will crash down as well
ReplyDeleteIt is crazy to think about how much we rely on the internet. When you think about it, the internet has not been widely used for that long. People lived without the internet for thousands of years and yet we cannot live without it. I am constantly checking my email and Facebook. Without the internet our generation would be completely different. The internet has made our generation desire fast results. It has brought us the ability to communicate long distances in short time spans and has allowed news to travel in a split second. The internet has become a tool to rely on.
ReplyDeleteAs I sit down to write this post, I am on Facebook, checking my email, and listen to Pandora online radio. I thought about writing this post about how many people in the US actually do not have internet and how they survive, but that would also require me to open another tab to search for the information. It is embarrassing to say that I can't remember a time when I didn't use the internet for my first place to research something. Shelby made a great point that the internet hasn't been around that long, but we are completely connected and addicted to it. Our grandparents listened to the radio; our parents were fascinated by the TV; and our lives are tightly intertwined with the internet. What will come for our children?
ReplyDeleteJust before I post this comment, my computer has broken down twice and I almost went mad because without the computer I have nothing to do. At the beginning of this quarter, I just moved into the new house which did not have internet for a week and in that week I live in a totally different way. I slept early and got up early and I went to the library in school to search the internet every morning even though I did not have any classes in the morning. I felt like that I lost my arms and legs in that week because I really cannot find anything to do without internet except sleeping. That week is absolutely a disaster for me! But I don’t think I am that addicted to internet since I won’t spend my whole day on it and I still do exercise and play with friends every day. However, if I know that I cannot use the internet when I need, I will definitely be crazy and cannot get down doing other things. Instead of addicting, internet is more likely a part of daily life nowadays which is like food and water. People need it to keep a normal life; otherwise I think the whole society will be in a great panic and even worse collapse. To mention the largest benefit it brings to me now, I will surely talk about that internet shorten the distance among people. My parents are both in China, but with internet I can easily talk with them an hour a day which is so important to me every day. I cannot imagine the time that I cannot contact them. That must be horrifying!
ReplyDeleteIt would be crazy if internet is carshed down. I can't even live without the internet. For my daily life, I will access the MSN or facebook every day to get know my friends' situation. And my parents also use the chat tool to talk to me every weekend, if no internet now, they cannot see me and would worry about me so much. For the homework, especially writing the essay, probably I will go to library to seach one of millionare books. I couldn't imagine that would cost much more time than doing serach online. Nothing can replace the Internet right now; it could do much more things for different jobs even for the connections between two countries, like the Obama-the Amercia's president talks with the China's president-Jintao Hu via the Internet. This invention contriutes a huge progress to our modern society and majority people rely on the Internet a lot.
ReplyDeleteFor the internet crash down, the way of using it is one aspect(opening too many windows at the same time), but I think the government's wrong is another. Actually it is not totally the government's mistake. If the internet has this kind of protential problems, Why the computer manufacturers continue building the high-speed computer? Why there are still many family plans in ATT for surfing internet. These guys should have more duties than the profit. If you cannot give us what you promise, you should sell less. It's like the GREAT DEPRESSION happened in 1920s.
ReplyDeleteI don't think there is any question how dependent the current generation has become of the internet. The dependency is going to become more and more as time elapses. Although, I may be dependent on the internet for things such as Twitter, Facebook, homework, research, etc. I wouldn't call myself to be addicted. It has become such a routine part of life that it seems weird when I am without the internet. Internet has a unique ability to allow people to communicate even though they are a long distance away.
ReplyDeleteI need the internet to survive! I need Twitter, Carmen, Facebook to keep in touch with my family. Internet is so important in todays society, Who could actually survive without Google. Its so important, even though people may feel like they might not need, if it was to actually crashed people would lose it. Internet on my phones goes so far, with GPS or finding a quick location, its a amazing resource. Its very effective, and you can become addicted but you have to keep up with the 21st century, and internet is it. Even internet can be abusing with cyberbulling, it has a major impact on all of our lives, even older people.
ReplyDeleteThe internet is absolutely incredible in the present, because it expands exponentially at every moment, millions and millions of people use it, rely on it, get paid from it, and are at detriment because of it. These facts effect every part of our lives, however, I do believe that the internet still DOES effect our lives in a positive way more so than a negative way. Thus, if it were to crash, not only would it effect us all personally, it would put all of society into a crash. Entire industries, countries, and economies ALL over the world would fail or enter a massive delay if the internet were to crash. It is because of the internet that our world can move at such a fast, efficient, complex pace -and without it, we'd basically be returning to a stone age of technology.
