Remember when you were a kid and asked your parents for a happy meal? In the video, San Francisco is going to ban the happy meal and we can see the "smile" suddenly becomes a "frown". What do you think of this? If the whole country bans the happy meal, what consequences do you think will come? On the other hand, why does the video use some posters such as the one "I want you for us army"?

Happy Meal Ban

Growing up in a large family, eating fast food was always a very special treat. When we would go out, my siblings and I would plead for a happy meal just because we wanted that toy. If the happy meal was ban, I believe both children and adult would be upset. Children would of course be upset about no longing have the toy. As much as my mom tried to convince me differently, I believed my chicken nuggets tasted so much better with a toy next to them. I believe adults would be upset about the government stepping into a personal right. If restaurant want to add a toy to their meal and if parents want to allow their kids to eat the happy meal, they have the right to do that. If the government starts controlling our restaurants menus, what will they start to control next?
ReplyDeleteAll children in the United States have experienced the Happy Meal. I can vividly remember choosing McDonalds for the sole reason that i would be adding a toy to my awesome collection. Without the motivation my loyalty would have gone to someone else who could provide for my needs. If the government wants to take away toys why would'nt they just stop fast food. Action figures do not make kids fat, cheeseburgers do. The only way a child can get their hands on a meal is if their parents provide it. Don't blame the toy, blame the parent. If a mom or dad is okay with the food they are feeding their own kid, who is Congress to say otherwise? What we eat is the most basic form of life and freedom; I'm not sure if I agree with a government regulating it.
ReplyDeleteI remember walking in to McDonald's and looking only at what the toy was in the Happy meal. Food, at that time, was definitely not a priority. Banning Happy meal is such a bizarre idea. What does a toy in the meal have to do with anything? How is it hurting the children in any way? In my opinion, the toy in the Happy Meal is a brilliant thing for kids as it seems to be a incentive for kid to eat the food. Now granted that the government does have a certain amount of control over business but telling them what to do directly is taking the businesses rights away. A business should have a freedom to direct what they do or what they sell however they want, not government telling them what to do. Honestly, how many of us would even go to McDonald's if the given changes were made?
ReplyDeleteThey are basically trying to start regulating the obesity in america by banning a certain unhealthy meal which primarily targets young kids by animations and colors. These calorie heavy meals are conveniently small and put nicely in a box for kids to grab and go. Unfortunately, kids are gaining weight more than ever these days due to genetic engineering of crops and just an overall standard of unhealthy food. The reason that they are banning the happy meal is to help promote the eating of healthy foods for kids and trying to stop weight gain in kids and young adults.
ReplyDeleteI don't think they should ban the happy meal deal, just make and put better options on the menu. Happy meals makes kids of course happy and their parents time and money is saved. Banning it would just cause a few issues that the government doesn't have time to handle. Parents can make better choices for their kids or cook healthy food, but that has nothing to do with a happy meal.
ReplyDeleteIn China, McDoalds also provides happy meal with different and ineresting toys. I was so excied when I collect them since I was a child. Now, I always see some little kids asking their parents to buy the happy meal and the toys is what they belong to in their childhood. If the government ban the happy meal, how could those children going to be? Althoug the food in meal is unhealthy, the governoment should not do the way like this. This is the parent's choice, not the business in government. Perhaps, the McDoals or the parents can choose another way to avoid this kind of fast food for children but still toys.
ReplyDeleteEvery time when I was a child in McDonald's, the only things is to get the toy from happy meal. even if my parents said the happy meal is not healthy, I don't care and in most of the situation, the food is always be eaten by my parents and I only drink some coke(the coke is unhealthy actually). I think the government should do someting for limiting the number of selling the happy meal. The profit from McDonald's is almost half from happy meal. the government should tax more to limit the unthealthy food.
ReplyDeleteThe Chinese eating style and culture are totally different from American thus fast food is not the main stream of food in China but fast food is one important part in American eating culture. However, in China, happy meal is still deeply loved and desired by children because of delicious hamburgers, fried chicken wings and especially the fantastic toys. I cannot imagine what kids’ childhood will like if the happy meals are banned but one thing I am sure is that they will lose one important source of happiness. What’s more, I learned American studies in summer school and I know that freedom is one essential part of Americanism. Thus, McDonald has the right to sell happy meals and the customers of course have the rights to choose whether to buy it or not. People can choose to only have healthy food certainly or eat fast food some times and this is just how people choose to eat. Government should not limit people’s rights to choose what they would like to eat. But, maybe, McDonald can make a Healthy Meal with the same price and same toys as Happy Meal does and then people can choose what to eat from these two choices.
