Cyber bullying has become a massive problem amongst users of social networking websites. People feel that behind the keyboard, they are safe to say whatever they want. In this instance, someone is trying to spread positive support to a cause and someone else does not agree with her way of supporting such cause. Little did the bully know how much controversy he would start. Some may agree with his views, but other will be completely against it. Could he have expressed his thoughts in a nicer manner, or was he in the right to express his opinion in a belligerent way? What are your opinions on the topic at hand?
I definitely agree, Facebook, twitter, and countless other social media may have many annoying, sometimes pointless, occurrences, but doesn't mean that we can bash them. In fact, this 'cancer post' was actually for the greater-good, and these acts actually can make a huge difference in awareness. Facebook among others is an incredible highway of how information can move from person to person, and this girl was just trying to use it in the best way possible. Given these points, it was extremely rude of this guy to take the post personally, and also personally offend this girl, and not to mention countless others that surely read the thread. I guess in that way, the male found a NEGATIVE way to use the information highway of the internet, and 'infect' facebook's intents.
ReplyDeleteIn conclusion, I can be sympathetic in the way that, yes, we all have our little pet peeve annoyances that occur on Facebook. However, this can be a lesson to this male that he should learn to keep his mouth shut, as we all do, ESPECIALLY with such a sensitive topic at hand AND the social highway of Facebook to spread it. He obviously realized his mistakes, and apologized in the end.

ReplyDeleteI wouldn't call this cyber bullying. He wasn't "trolling" or trying to cause drama, he was simply sharing his opinion about the topic. However, the way he was expressing his thoughts was rude and inconsiderate. He could've been nicer, especially that the status was about cancer. And, I don't agree with what he wrote about words and actions. Yes, actions are better than words, but in most cases, words lead to actions. If people can't show support to those in need through actions, they can at least show that they care and spread the word, maybe someone out there can help in a more effective way.
ReplyDeleteAs for cyber bullying, I agree with you in that it has to stop. Online bullies do it because they can get away with it. I believe that bad childhood and insecurities are some of the reasons why bullies act the way they do.
Everyone is entitled to share their opinion, but people have to be very careful in their approach of doing that. Even if you disagree with someone, you can do it in a politer or a nicer way, unlike this guy. You can't just come out and blatantly bash on other people's opinion. His comments on this were very rude and demeaning.
